Un soir de janvier 2017, une vidéo se répand sur les réseaux sociaux, celle d’un jeune gambien en train de se noyer dans le Grand-Canal de Venise. Filmé avec un téléphone portable, le corps pétrifié par le froid semble se laisser couler malgré les quelques bouées de sauvetages jetées dans sa direction. Depuis la rive et les embarcations, des passants l’insultent sans lui porter assistance. Il avait 22 ans et s’appelait Pateh Sabally. A 4000 kilomètres de là, les voix et les visages de sa famille racontent l’histoire qui a précédé ce drame, l’histoire au dos des images…
